Glucosamine is an aminosaccharide found in all body tissues, most notably in the kidneys, liver, and cartilage. It prevents the breakdown of connective joint tissue and helps to form new ones. Glucosamine is most often taken as part of adjunctive therapies for osteoarthritis and as a preventive measure against cartilage wear in athletes, recreational and also the rest, especially the elderly population.
Intense as well as long-term exercise wears out the joints in the long run, and the tensile forces and friction between the ligament and the bone cause microscopic tissue damage. Glucosamine hydrochloride from shellfish is a building block of proteoglycans that bind water through cation binding and increase the viscosity of the protective layer of articular cartilage. Some claims even go in the direction that glucosamine reverses the process of cartilage wear to such an extent that it increases the synthesis of proteoglycans and thus accelerates the recovery of the collagen framework
The positive effects of glucosamine are also the result of milder anti-inflammatory action and inhibition of the formation of enzymes and other substances that contribute to cartilage damage and cause cell death in cartilage tissue. In oral (oral) use, the most common forms are sulfate and HCL (hydrochloride). We chose the less common HCL, from the renowned manufacturer Swanson. Why? The hydrochloride form is more concentrated than the sulfate form, and the hydrochloride form contains significantly less sodium per effective dose than the sulfate form. A smaller amount is also needed to achieve results. Glucosamine sulfate requires compound stabilizers in salt form and has a 74 percent purity. Glucosamine HCl has no sulfate group and has 99% purity. Therefore, glucosamine HCl at a dose of 1,500 mg is equal to a dose of 2,608 mg of glucosamine sulfate (Owens et al. 2004).
